A Two-Day Sauna Protocol on Lake Saimaa, Priced Out
A Visit Finland trip through Lappeenranta and Imatra sets out the working parts of a screens-off weekend in Finnish Lakeland: smoke sauna, cold water, forest time, and what each element costs.

The Wordrobe has published a two-city itinerary for Finland's Lake Saimaa region, run as part of Visit Finland's Chill Like a Finn campaign with GoSaimaa, that treats sauna and cold water as scheduled components rather than atmosphere.
The structure splits between Lappeenranta, Finland's second most visited city and the regional capital of South Karelia, and Imatra, about thirty minutes away. In Lappeenranta, the harbour-side Boutique Hotel Lähde has a Deluxe Double from €180.48 including a spa ticket, with a cold natural spring plunge pool built in 1912. The smoke sauna and peat treatment at the manor house Olkkolan Hovi, on Lake Kuolimo, starts at €15 per person. In Imatra, the 1903 Art Nouveau Imatran Valtionhotelli, beside the Imatrankoski rapids, starts at €150 for a Superior Queen Castle room and has a sauna reached by underground tunnel. A two-hour floating sauna cruise on the Vuoksi River with Saunalautta-Imatra, including dry suit floating, is €220; a lunch cruise aboard the century-old m/s Emma is €57 per person.
Forest time is booked too: guided foraging with the family-run Creative Kaiku in Ruokolahti, plus the Kummakivi balancing boulder. Finnair flies Heathrow to Helsinki from £352 return; VR rail to Lappeenranta from €45.70.
