About Maison Routes
An English-language magazine on luxury hotels, restaurants, spas and the buildings they occupy. Published as the reporting is finished rather than to a print calendar.

Who operates it as against who owns it, how many keys, where the money went and where it did not.
Openings and reopenings, groups buying and selling, kitchens changing hands, the studios behind the rooms, and the spas that have started measuring things. Written for a reader who has stayed in good hotels and does not need luxury explained.
Six sections, one piece a day. Some weeks a section is quiet, and on those days we would rather publish nothing there than publish something thin.
Four rules
Every piece names its sources
Each article is drawn from reporting published elsewhere and lists at the foot of the page every source it drew on, with a link. We synthesise across several accounts and write our own; we do not reproduce anyone's article.
Photographs carry their licence
A hero image is the publisher's own, shown with credit and a link to the original, or licensed stock. Where an image is an illustration rather than a photograph of a place, it says so under the frame. Nothing is published with an image we cannot account for.
We say what is weak as well as what is good
A guide that likes everything is an advertisement. Where the reporting supports it we say which reservation is worth the effort and which is not, and where two sources disagree we say that rather than choosing.
No prices or dates we were not given
A rate, an opening date, a room count or a name appears only where a source gave it. Where a detail is missing, the piece is written around it rather than filled in.
Letters from the road, delivered quietly.
A monthly correspondence of new destinations, hotel openings, and slow reflections from our editors. No noise, only the essential.
One letter a month. Nothing else, and nobody else.
