October makes a persuasive case for a few days in Athens. In her autumn guide for Citizen Femme, managing editor Katie Silcox draws on seven years of living in the city, pairing its ancient landmarks with restaurants, museums and neighbourhoods worth making time for.

Start with the Acropolis, then leave room for a less prescribed afternoon. Silcox’s recommendations extend to Kypseli and Exarchia, Sunday browsing around Avissinias Square and the coast along the Athens Riviera. The appeal is in the variety; there is little reason to schedule every hour.

For dinner, Makris Athens gives Petros Dimas’s interpretation of Greek cooking a setting overlooking the city’s antiquities. The restaurant earned its first Michelin star in 2024, and its tasting menus draw on ingredients from its own farm and local producers. Michelin Guide

At Line, in a former gallery in Kato Petralona, fermentation shapes both the drinks and the food. Its house-made fruit wines offer a particular reason to venture beyond the centre. 50 Best

Leave time, too, for the Alekos Fassianos Museum. Opened in 2023, it brings the artist’s paintings, collages and other works into a building he helped design with architect Kyriakos Krokos. It is an address for looking closely—and a good reason to keep an afternoon free. Alekos Fassianos Museum
